STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 24th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE UPR REPORT OF SIERRA LEONE *
My delegation would like to thank the delegation of Sierra Leone, led by H.E. Mr. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Sierra Leone for the presentation of their national report and continued engagement in the UPR process.
Indonesia welcomes the progress taken by the Government of Sierra Leone since their first cycle, including the implementation National Gender Plan and the National Action Plan on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (200) and 1820 (2008), also, in formulating a strategy to combat violence against women, as well as enhance the important role of women in peace-building and in the decision-making process.
We also take note with appreciation the increased commitment taken by the Government of Sierra Leone to advance the rights to education including human rights education.
Indonesia notes the continued improvements made by the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) in line with Paris Principles. In this regard, we recommend the Government of Sierra Leone to continue and advance works of NCHR through, among others, developing a comprehensive human rights national action plan. Indonesia also encourages the involvement of civil society as a partner of the government in promoting and protecting human rights.
Moreover, it is well noted that Sierra Leone has been a party to seven core human rights instruments and signatory to two. With a view to further strengthen legal framework, we recommend that Sierra Leone consider expediting the process of ratification of the International Convention on the Protection of the rights of All Migrant Workers and members of their Families.
To conclude, Indonesia would like to offer its best wishes to the Government and people of Sierra Leone in their future endeavors towards the promotion of human rights at all levels.
