STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 24th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE UPR REPORT OF BELGIUM
My delegation would like to thank the Delegation of Belgium and thank them for their report and its continued engagement in the UPR Process.
We note with appreciation the measures taken by the Government of Belgium in combating racism, extremism and xenophobia, at all levels of the Government, as well as in protecting women and minors as asylum seekers.
While recognizing the strong commitment of Belgium to fully comply its obligations in the field of human rights and to improve its national mechanisms, we recommend that Belgium further advance its national efforts on the promotion and protection of human rights through, among others, developing a comprehensive Human Rights National Action Plan and considering the establishment of National Human Rights Institution, in conformity with the Paris Principles.
With a view to further strengthen legal framework, we recommend that Belgium continue its efforts to ratify the International Convention on the Protection of the rights of All Migrant Workers and members of their Families (ICRMW).
Furthermore, we also recommend that Belgium enhance its efforts on the full implementation of the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT).
We wish the distinguished delegation of Belgium a successful UPR.
I thank you.
