STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 24th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE NATIONAL REPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF PARAGUAY

Mr. President,

My delegation would like to thank the delegation of the Republic of Paraguay for the presentation of their national report and continued engagement in the UPR process.

Indonesia commends the Government of Paraguay for their continued efforts in improving the promotion and protection of human rights by among others strengthening national legislative frameworks on the situation of foreign migrants, preventing and combatting trafficking in persons, employment of persons with disabilities, and providing inclusive education.

Indonesia also notes the Government of Paraguay efforts to formulate the National Human Rights Action Plan as part of its commitment to guarantee the fulfillment of human rights in Paraguay.

Mr. President,

While we acknowledge the initiatives taken by the Human Rights Network of the Executive Branch, as well as the establishment of the Ombudsman Office, Indonesia recommends the Government of Paraguay to strengthen its efforts in establishing the National Human Rights Institution, in line with the Paris Principles and with full participation of the civil society.

In addition, my delegation also recommends the Government of Paraguay to redouble its efforts in formulating the National Human Rights Action Plan.

Mr. President,

To conclude, Indonesia would like to offer its best wishes to the Government and people of Paraguay in their future endeavors towards the promotion and protection of human rights at all levels.

Thank you.
