STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 24th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE NATIONAL REPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOZAMBIQUE
Indonesia would like to thank the delegation of the Republic of Mozambique, for their comprehensive national report prepared by the Inter-Ministerial Working Group for Human Rights.
Indonesia welcomes the efforts taken by the Government of Mozambique in the promotion and protection of human rights. Indonesia notes with appreciation the establishment of the National Commission on Human Rights and the Ombudsman Office, the ratification of the ICRMW and the OP-CAT, as well as the improvements in strengthening the legal and political frameworks throughout the country.
Indonesia is of the view that measures can be taken to ensure the full implementation of the economic, social and cultural rights. In this regard, Indonesia recommends Mozambique to consider the ratification of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
We take note of the expansion of school networks and increased access to education throughout the country, however the current literacy rates especially among girls deserve our special attention. In this regard, Indonesia recommends Mozambique to continue improving access to education and literacy rates.
To conclude, Indonesia would like to offer its best wishes to the Government and people of Mozambique in their future endeavors towards the promotion and protection of human rights at all levels.
