STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF INDONESIA 24th SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON UNIVERSAL PERIODIC REVIEW CONSIDERATION OF THE NATIONAL REPORT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ESTONIA


Mr. President,

Indonesia would like to thank the delegation of Estonia led by H.E. Ms. Marina Kaljurand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, for their comprehensive national report which includes inputs from government agencies and non-government organizations.

Indonesia commends efforts taken by the Government of Estonia in strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights through the establishment of Ombudsman for Children, the Gender Equality and Equal Treatment Commissioner, and legislation improvements in all fields including education, trafficking in human beings, the rights of the child, as well as social welfare. We also note with appreciation their commitment to implement international treaties.

 

Mr. President,

Indonesia takes note with appreciation the efforts taken by the Chancellor of Justice in ensuring the fulfillment of human rights in the absent of the National Human Rights Institution in Estonia. In this regard, we recommend that the Government of Estonia continue its efforts to establish the National Human Rights Institution, in line with the Paris Principles and with full participation of the civil society.

Furthermore, Indonesia is of the view that measures can be taken to ensure the full implementation of migrant rights andrecommends the Government of Estonia to consider the ratification of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (ICRMW).

To conclude, Indonesia would like to offer its best wishes to the Government and people of Estonia in their future endeavors towards the promotion and protection of human rights at all levels.
